Morning and evening game drives through the reserve take place in open Land Rovers and guided walks allow an upclose insight into the ‘Big Five’ African bush. Self-drive or road transfer from Port Elizabeth in 45 minutes.

4* Woodbury Lodge

Woodbury Lodge is spectacularly set against a cliff above the Bushmans River valley in the Amakhala Game Reserve. It offers an intimate and tranquil experience of the Eastern Cape and is the ideal place for families to relax and enjoy the bush together. All rooms have private decks, large bathrooms and boast magnificent views over the plains. Guests are often thrilled by the late afternoon sighting of an elephant herd passing by.

Secretly hidden in the indigenous valley flora, African tribal design has inspired the creation of this intimate thatched lodge. The lodge, with its unique safari huts and signature stone-capped roof tops, is an undisturbed retreat where guests regenerate and tune into the sounds of nature. The view from the safari huts and lounge area is of the waterhole where monkeys play, and antelope and zebra quench their thirst.
