SUGGESTED ITINERARY
Day 1 - UK to Perth
Fly from London to Perth, arriving the next day.
Days 2-3 - Perth
On arrival make your way from the airport to your chosen hotel, for a two night stay - we have a range of hotels to choose from, and your length of stay in Perth is flexible.
Day 4 - Perth to Geraldton
Collect your rental car from the Perth depot, and head north along the Indian Ocean Coast to Geraldton (approx 430 km / 4 hours 30 mins, plus stops). Call in at the Yanchep National Park to see the resident koalas, kangaroos, emus, cockatoos and more, or try your hand at kitesurfing or windsurfing at Lancelin, where the outlying reef make conditions ideal. The pretty towns of Dongara & Port Denison make a great pitstop on the long journey north, while Geraldton itself is the largest town between Perth and Darwin. On arrival check in to your hotel for an overnight stay.
Day 5 - Geraldton to Monkey Mia
Once you’ve explored Geraldton continue north to UNESCO-listed Shark Bay, and world-renowned Monkey Mia (approx 430 km / 4 hours 30 mins, plus stops). We’d recommend heading straight up to Shark Bay with minimal stops to make the most of this spectacular region with its 1500 km coastline containing turquoise lagoons, gorgeous white-sand beaches and a vast diversity of wildlife. 20 miles after you turn off the main highway take a short detour to Hamelin Pool, a marine reserve with what's said to be the world’s best stromatolites, a coral-like formation. On arrival in to Monkey Mia check in to your hotel for a two night stay.
Day 6 - Monkey Mia
Monkey Mia is world-renowned for the dolphins that come to shore every morning to be fed, and is a real highlight of a trip to Australia. Get to the beach fairly early but hang around afterwards as some dolphins will return two or three times! Feeding the dolphins yourself is very restricted, so we’d recommend heading to the pier for great views. Spend the rest of the day exploring the region, with pretty Denham offering the Shark Bay Discovery Centre - it’s Australia’s most westerly town.
Day 7 - Monkey Mia to Kalbarri
Take in the dolphin-feeding once again this morning before returning south via Denham to Kalbarri (approx 400 km / 4 hours 15 mins, plus stops). Kalbarri is home to the magnificent Kalbarri National Park, with its red sandstone cliffs heading straight to the coast. Go snorkelling at the Blue Holes, Surfing at Jakes Point and explore the sheer scenery of the National Park itself. On arrival in to Kalbarri check in to your hotel for an overnight stay.
Day 8 - Kalbarri to Cervantes
This morning spend a little time exploring Kalbarri before continuing south the Cervantes (approx 375 km / 4 hours, plus stops). We’d recommend heading straight down to Cervantes, passing back through Geraldton, to get to Cervantes in time to take in the eerie Pinnacles Desert, 19 km away in the Nambung National Park. The pinnacle-like formations are actually made of compacted seashells and it’s particularly atmospheric at sunset. On arrival in to Cervantes check in to your hotel for an overnight stay.
Day 9 - Cervantes to Perth
Today is a relatively short drive back to Perth (approx 200 km / 2 hours 30 mins, plus stops) so we’d recommend popping in to some of the secluded beaches along the Turquoise Coast. On arrival in to Perth drop off your car at the depot and check in to your hotel for a final night.
Day 9 - Perth
Make your way to Perth airport for your return flight to the UK, arriving the next day.
Combine vibrant Perth with the coastal scenery to the north with this compact and fascinating Western Australia fly-drive, taking in the dolphins at Monkey Mia, the mysterious Pinnacles and the coastline of Kalbarri.
