Namibia's most famous destination, Sossusvlei is in the heart of the Namib desert, with dunes towering up to 300 metres high and surrounding a huge dried-up pan. Nearby Dead Vlei is dotted with dead tree trunks which adds to the sheer beauty. An ideal time to visit is at sunrise or sunset when the changing mood and colours are fascinating to see, while daytime temperatures can rocket.
The Namib-Nakluft National Park is more than just ht e famous sand dunes of Sossusvlei, though - stark desert scenery and dramatic mountains combine to create some of Namibia’s most beautiful countryside. This is one of the world’s largest national parks, stretching from the coast well inland, and is an area that should be on every Namibia itinerary.
