Karen, your guide to San Francisco from Escape Worldwide.
“I love the vibe of San Fran, it’s such a fab setting, plenty to see and do, and the wine of the Napa Valley is close too!”
What to do in San Francisco
Spend a few days exploring San Francisco’s charm, along with its key sights including the Golden Gate Bridge and the prison island of Alcatraz. Make time to explore the city’s funky neighbourhoods too, from the Italian restaurants of North Beach to the hippy culture of Haight-Ashbury.
Where to stay in San Francisco
There’s a good selection of hotel options in San Francisco, with many centred around either the Union Square or Fisherman’s Wharf areas - Union Square is idea for exploring the city centre, while Fisherman’s Wharf gives a little more breathing space, with its waterfront setting. Most main hotel groups have options in San Francisco, plus there’s an exciting range of independent hotels too.
Holiday ideas to San Francisco
Spend a few days in San Francisco before moving on to other areas of the US - San Fran combines perfectly with various areas such as New York, Las Vegas, Hawaii and various parts of the Caribbean. Alternatively, pick up a car in San Francisco and drive yourself along the Pacific Coast to Los Angeles and San Diego, or via the great National Parks towards Las Vegas.
The “City by the Bay” is arguably the most beautiful city in America – it is a place of unrivalled natural and manmade wonders. Visitors cannot fail to be impressed by iconic Golden Gate Bridge and the fantastic shopping around Union Square. The streets of downtown rise at impossible gradients up to exclusive Nob Hill, and then tumble down the other side to the harbour and tourist attractions around Fisherman’s Wharf with its resident sea lions.
