SUGGESTED ITINERARY
Day 1 - UK to Las Vegas
Fly from London to Las Vegas, arriving later the same day. On arrival make your way to your chosen hotel, for a three night stay - we have a range of hotels to choose from, and your length of stay in Las Vegas is flexible.
Days 2-3 - Las Vegas
Today start your discovery of Las Vegas. Vegas has some of the world’s biggest and best casinos, from stylish Bellagio and glitzy Cosmopolitan to fun-filled New York, New York. Do bear in mind that under 21’s can’t visit casinos (they can walk through, but not stop) but there are activities in Las Vegas for kids too.
Day 4 - Las Vegas to Grand Canyon
Collect your car from the Las Vegas airport depot, and head out of town. Drive from Las Vegas to Grand Canyon Village - approx 290 miles / 4 hours 40 minutes (plus stopping time). Start by heading to the Hoover Dam, then onwards to Kingman where you can pick up a bit of the classic Route 66. We’d suggest following the old road through Peach Springs (rather than the new highway) for a taste of Route 66. Head on to Williams and then to Grand Canyon Village, where you’ll check in to your hotel for a two night stay.
Day 5 - Grand Canyon
The awe-inspiring Grand Canyon is one of the world’s most famous natural features, and it really does take your breath away. Spend the day exploring the region (it’s vast, so you can’t take it all in!) Enjoying stunning viewpoints or taking in some of the regions superb hiking trails. The Rim Trail is one of the easiest and most popular, while South Kaibab is one of the prettiest.
Day 6 - Grand Canyon to Monument Valley
We’d suggest taking the long route round from Grand Canyon Village to Monument Valley - approx 290 miles / 4 hours 45 minutes (plus stopping time) to take in some truly spectacular scenery. Head to Marble Canyon and Horseshoe Bends on the Colorado River, before arriving in to Page & Lake Powell. The desert scenery continues to your accommodation in Monument Valley, for an overnight stay.
Day 7 - Monument Valley to Moab
Drive from Monument Valley to Moab - approx 150 miles / 2 hours 30 minutes (plus stopping time) via Highway 191, or go the long way round via Four Corners Monument (approx 250 miles / 4 hours 15 minutes), the only place in the USA where you can straddle four states at the same time! Check in to your hotel for a two night stay.
Day 8 - Moab
Moab is Utah’s self-proclaimed recreational capital, and is packed with things to do - horse riding, mountain biking, canyoning. Head to nearby Canyonlands National Park or Arches National Park for stunning scenery.
Day 9 - Moab to Bryce Canyon
Drive from Moab to Bryce Canyon - approx 270 miles / 5 hours (plus stopping time) via Capitol Reef National Park at Torrey and the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument at Boulder & Escalante. Highway 12 winds through this spectacular canyonland and is one of Utah’s most diverse and stunning routes. Check in to your hotel for a two night stay.
Day 10 - Bryce Canyon
The stunning geological feature of the Grand Staircase peaks at Bryce Canyon National Park, with incredible rock formations of sorbet-coloured pinnacles and totem pole-shaped peaks. Take the 18 mile Rim Road scenic drive taking in the likes of Inspiration Point and Rainbow Point, for a great overview of this popular national park.
Day 11 - Bryce Canyon to Death Valley
Today is a long drive from Bryce Canyon to Death Valley - approx 375 miles / 6 hours 30 mins (plus stopping time) - but well worthwhile, travelling via Zion National Park and St George. At Zion, a 6 mile scenic drive will take you to the heart of the park - there’s also 100 miles of park trails if you prefer to take to foot. At Death Valley the views from Zabriskie Point are spectacular and at Dante’s View you can see the lowest and highest points in the contiguous USA. On arrival in to Furnace Creek check in to your hotel for one night.
Day 12 - Death Valley to Yosemite
It’s another long drive today, but totally spectacular and extremely dramatic (approx 340 miles / 6 hours 30 mins, plus stops) as you head from the lowest place in the USA at Death Valley to the high altitude of Yosemite. From your hotel in Death Valley head to Stovepipe Wells and on to Independence and Bishop. Mammoth makes a good place to stop as this is about half the journey time-wise. Then head in to Yosemite National Park and across the spectacular Tioga Pass (weather dependent). Check in to your hotel for a two night stay.
Day 13 - Yosemite
Spend the day exploring this spectacular national park, and we’d suggest focusing on the Yosemite Valley area.
Day 14 - Yosemite to San Francisco
Your last drive takes you from Yosemite to San Francisco (approx 200 miles / 3 hours 15 mins) entering the City by crossing the vast Oakland Bay Bridge. On arrival in to San Francisco drop off your car at the Downtown depot and check in to your hotel for a three night stay.
Days 15-16 - San Francisco
You now have the next few days to explore exciting San Francisco. We love the hop-on hop-off sightseeing buses as they make it easy to include the city’s most famous landmark, the Golden Gate Bridge, in your itinerary. Do bear in mind that San Francisco’s weather is notoriously changeable, so if the sun is out and the clouds are high head straight to the bridge for your best photo opportunities. It’s worth noting that one of the city’s most renowned attractions - Alcatraz - must be prebooked if you're intending to visit.
Day 17 - Return
Make your way to San Francisco airport for your return flight to the UK, arriving the next day.
