ITINERARY

Day 1 - Depart

Fly from Heathrow to Nairobi, arriving next day. Regional departures from around the UK are also available.

Day 2 - Samburu

You’ll be met on arrival at Nairobi airport, and transferred to the nearby Safari Lounge, where you can freshen up and store any beach luggage that you don’t want to take on safari - flying safaris include a luggage allowance of 15 kg per person. Then transfer to Wilson airport for your light aircraft flight to Samburu (approximately 1 hour 15 minutes). You’ll be met at the airstrrip and transferred to the Ashnil Samburu Camp in time for lunch. After lunch a game drive will introduce you to this incredible game reserve. The superb Ashnil Samburu Camp is set south of the Ewaso Nyiro River, in Buffalo Springs Game Reserve, Samburu. The camp consists of just 30 luxury, circular tents which are spread throughout the lush grounds. Overnight: Ashnil Samburu Camp (lunch and dinner included).

Day 3 - Samburu

Today starts with an early morning game drive in to the reserve to spot wildlife, before returning to the camp for breakfast. The three national reserves that make up the Samburu area - Buffalo Springs, Shaba and Samburu itself - encompass a variety of landscapes, which provides a variety of wildlife. Shaba’s rocky kopjes (isolated hills) and natural springs contrast with the open savannahs and scrub desert of Buffalo Springs and Samburu. Elephant, giraffe, Grevy’s zebra and Somali ostriches are common here. Overnight: Ashnil Samburu Camp (breakfast, lunch and dinner included).

Day 4 - Masai Mara

Transfer back to the airstrip for your light aircraft flight to the Masai Mara (approximately 1 hour). You’ll be met at your airstrip and transferred to the Ashnil Mara Camp. After lunch a game drive will show you some of what the Mara has to offer. The Masai Mara is a truly exceptional area, and your time here will be like working your way through a wildlife guidebook - being a fairly small reserve it’s easy to get fairly close to the wildlife. Overnight: Ashnil Mara Camp (breakfast, lunch and dinner included).

Days 5-6 - Masai Mara

Enjoy two full days with morning and afternoon game drives in this outstanding national park. On one morning, there’s an opportunity for a hot air balloon ride over the Masai Mara (optional extra) in the early morning, followed by breakfast (complete with sparkling wine) in the bush - it’s an amazing experience, and one we’d highly recommend. The rest of the morning is at leisure before lunch. In the afternoon a second game drive will show you more of the Masai Mara’s wildlife. The Ashnil Mara Camp is perfectly positioned at the confluence of the Mara and Olkeju Rivers in the Masai Mara National Reserve. This camp offers discerning travellers 44 superb tents which sit alongside the riverbank and offer luxurious accommodation. Overnight: Ashnil Mara Camp (breakfast, lunch and dinner included).

Day 7 - Beach

After breakfast you’ll be taken to the airstrip for the light aircraft flight back to Nairobi (approximately 1 hour). Transfer to Nairobi airport for your flight to Mombasa or Zanzibar. You’ll be met on arrival and transferred to your chosen beach hotel - prices here include a week on the beach but pretty much any duration is possible. Spend the next week relaxing on the beach.

Day 14 - Return

Return transfer to the airport for your flight back to the UK.

Notes

Game drives are conducted in the camp’s own vehicles, and a window seat cannot be guaranteed.

Travel times vary on road conditions and game sightings.

Pack a mixture of warm and light clothing in soft bags, plus sunglasses, camera and insect repellent.

Light aircraft baggage allowance is 15 kg - soft sided bags must be used.
