Hot Air Ballooning in East Africa
Optional hot-air balloon flights can be arranged in a number of locations in Kenya and Tanzania, including the Masai Mara in Kenya and the Serengeti in Tanzania. Pre-booking is essential as space is very limited. This exhilarating experience commences at dawn, and the drive through the darkness to the balloon launch site is an adventure in itself as the headlights from your vehicle catch the eyes of the wildlife that’s just starting to stir.
After a safety briefing it’s time for take-off, and you’ll spend around an hour in the air. Much of the flight is spent just above tree level, so you’re low enough to see the wildlife beneath you, but high enough not to disturb it. Once you’ve landed you’ll enjoy a lavish bush breakfast, complete with sparkling wine.
The direction and duration of the flight is dependent on the weather. The balloon trip takes the place of an early morning game drive if this is otherwise included in your itinerary. Please note that adverse weather conditions, or other factors, may lead to the cancellation of the balloon flight, especially during the rainy season of April-May. Children under the age of 12 are not permitted and height restrictions apply.
