The Deep South is a great place to simply soak in the atmosphere - it’s a music-lovers paradise, so you can work your way from Country music in Nashville via the Blues in Memphis and on to the Jazz capital New Orleans. The region is packed with historic sights, beautiful countryside and plenty to see and do, but it’s the friendliness of the people and the atmosphere of the cities that will live with you.

The Deep South of the USA is probably our favourite area of this diverse country, with the warmest of welcomes and an infectious soul. From the pulsing rhythms of New Orleans to the line dancing of Nashville (you’ll be joining in before you know it!), music, food and friendliness permeate the Deep South like nowhere else. The region has a long and varied history and today it’s packed with interest that’s ripe to explore.

There’s an excellent range of accommodation options throughout the Deep South, from motel chains for the budget-conscious to international hotels with all the trimmings. We love some of the region’s more atmospheric places to stay, which includes plantation houses in the Mississippi Delta and French era colonial buildings in the heart of New Orleans.

Holiday ideas to the Deep South

This is a great part of the USA for a Fly-Drive holiday, with quiet roads outside of the main cities, and charming towns that are well worth calling in on. Follow the Great River Road along the Mississippi and the Natchez Trace parkway towards Nashville for some of the region’s most atmospheric drives. A daily train links Memphis and New Orleans for a different way to see some of the countryside. Flights are also available if you prefer not to drive.
