Multi Centre holiday
Yogyakarta, on the Indonesian island of Java, is one of the most fascinating cities in Asia - it’s home to two incredible temple complexes, a Royal palace and intriguing culture. Combine it with KL and Bali on this incredible trip.

The fascinating city of Yogyakarta (pronounced ‘jog-ja-car-ta’ or ‘jogja’ for short) is packed with interest, and is one of Indonesia’s most likeable cities. The two key drawcards here are the UNESCO Heritage listed temples of Borobudur and Prambanen, both about an hour out of the city - Borobudur is the world’s largest Buddhist monument while Prambanan is one of the finest Hindu temple complexes in Southeast Asia.
Besides the jaw-dropping monuments, Yogya is also a culturally-rich destination, and is often described as the soul of Java - the Sultan still resides in the palace, the Javanese language is at its purest here, and crafts such as batik are exceptional.
For an incredible mix of history and culture, sightseeing and scenery, food and traditions, Yogya makes a perfect stop in an Asian itinerary.
Holiday ideas to Yogyakatra
Yogyakarta combines really well with Bali, and also with the cities of Singapore and Kuala Lumpur - we’d suggest spending around three nights in Yogya to take in all that it has to offer, before continuing on to the beaches of Bali or one of the city destinations.
Getting to Yogyakarta
Yogyakarta has regular air links to various places in Southeast Asia, most notably Singapore, Kuala Lumpur and Bali. Travelling overland to Mount Bromo is easiest by train to Surabaya and on by road.
It’s also possible to include the magical Mount Bromo (pictured) in to a holiday to Java, travelling from Yogyakarta by road or train, and then on to Bali. Ask for details of our tours to Mount Bromo.
