Sydney, the Red Centre and Cairns Multicentre Holiday

Combine classic Sydney and the Great Barrier Reef at Cairns with a short self-drive through the Outback, crossing the Red Centre from Ayers Rock via the Kings Canyon to Alice Springs, over the course of a few days.

SUGGESTED ITINERARY

Day 1 - UK to Sydney

Fly from London to Sydney, arriving the next day.

Days 2-5 - Sydney

On arrival make your way from the airport to your chosen hotel, for a four night stay - we have a range of hotels to choose from, and your length of stay in Sydney is flexible. Spend a few days exploring the city centre but don’t forget beach suburbs such as Manly, where the laid-back Aussie beach vibe is in abundance.

Day 6 - Sydney to Ayers Rock

Make your way back to Sydney airport for your flight to Ayers Rock, in the heart of Australia. On arrival, collect your car at the depot for your short drive to your resort. Check in to your chosen hotel for a two night stay.

Day 7 - Ayers Rock

Spend the day exploring the extraordinary Ayers Rock area - mammoth Ayers Rock itself is the best-known of the sights but The Olgas (Kata Tjuta) is a striking collection of rocks and well worth visiting. They’re about 35 km from Ayers Rock itself.

Day 8 - Ayers Rock to Kings Canyon

Today drive through the heart of Australia's Red Centre from Ayers Rock to the Kings Canyon (approx 235 km / 4 hours 30 mins). Take the Lasseter Highway and allow a stop at the Mount Conner lookout (many visitors coming from the other direction mistake Mount Conner for Ayers Rock itself!) And on along Luritja Road to Kings Canyon. This is one of the most spectacular sights in Australia, a huge chasm in Watarrka National Park, and the 2km Kings Creek Walk will give you a great introduction to the area. On arrival check in to your hotel for an overnight stay.

Day 9 - Kings Canyon to Alice Springs

We’d suggest an early start to walk the 6km Kings Canyon Walk, but be aware of soaring temperatures and allow 4 hours. It’s then a long drive (approx 475 km / hours) back along Luritja Road and the Lasseter Highway to Erlundam, and up the Stuart Highway in to Alice Springs. It’s worth noting that alternative routes are only suitable for 4x4 vehicles. On arrival in to Alice Springs check in to your hotel for a two night stay.

Day 10 - Alice Springs

Spend today exploring Alice Springs, or simply relaxing at your hotel. Climb Anzac Hill for great views - particularly at sunrise and sunset - or spend a few hours at the Araluen Cultural Precinct, the town’s cultural hub.

Day 11 - Alice Springs to Cairns

Drive to Alice Springs airport, drop off your car and check in for your flight to Cairns. On arrival, make your way to your chosen hotel for a five night stay - your duration here is completely flexible so if you’d like a longer or shorter stay just ask!

Days 12-15 - Cairns

Spend the next few days exploring Cairns. There’s plenty of adventure to be had here, with adrenalin activities such as bungee jumping or skydiving available, or for the more laid-back spend an afternoon at the city’s fabulous lagoon.

Day 16 - Return

Make your way to Cairns airport for your return flight to the UK, arriving the next day.
