The Northern Territories is vast and sparsely populated, but packed with interest. Australia’s desert heartland (the Red Centre) focuses on Ayers Rock (Uluru) and Alice Springs, while the northern tropics (the Top End) around Darwin is completely different. The Red Centre is best known for the incredible Ayers Rock, but locations such as Kings Canyon and the Olgas are equally worth visiting - hire a car and drive from Ayers Rock to Alice Springs over a few days to take in the grandeur of the region. The Top End is dotted with magnificent national parks such as Kakadu, and rich in aboriginal culture.
