Luxury Kenya Safari & the Beaches of Malindi

The superb 7-night Cheetah Safari combines Kenya’s diverse landscapes to showcase this magical country’s incredible wildlife. Follow it with a stay at an intimate 5* resort on the beaches of Malindi for a truly memorable holiday.

ITINERARY

Day 1 - Depart

Fly from Heathrow to Nairobi, arriving the next day. Regional departures from around the UK are also available.

Day 2 - Aberdares

You’ll be met on arrival at Nairobi airport, and transferred to the nearby Safari Lounge, where you can freshen up and store any beach luggage that you don’t want to take on safari. Depart for the Aberdares (180 km), arriving in time for lunch at the Aberdare Country Club, which is nestled on the slopes of Mwega Hill. The wildlife sanctuary is brimming with giraffes, zebras, Grant's and Thomson's gazelles, plus it is home to the reclusive leopard. Spend the afternoon relaxing, or on a nature walk with the resident naturalist (weather permitting). A round of golf with an audience of warthogs is not out of the question. From the Club's gardens and pool the setting sun with the Aberdare Mountains as a backdrop, is stunning. Overnight: Aberdare Country Club (lunch and dinner included).

Day 3 - Samburu

Today you’ll drive north across the equator to the Samburu National Reserve (190 km). On arrival you’ll check in to the Ashnil Samburu Cubmp, your home for the next two nights. Set south of Ewaso Nyiro River in Buffalo Springs Game Reserve, a stay here gives you unrivalled access to game viewing. The camp is home to just 30 luxury tents, all circular, and carefully spread throughout the lush ground. A lovely pool is a welcome place to cool off. After lunch a game drive will introduce you to this wildlife-rich area. Return to the camp for dinner. Overnight: Ashnil Samburu Camp (breakfast, lunch and dinner included).

Day 4 - Samburu

Today you’ll experience morning and late afternoon game drives in this open savannah which is traversed by the Ewaso Nyiro River. The three national reserves that make up the Samburu area - Buffalo Springs, Shaba and Samburu itself - encompass a variety of landscapes, which provides a variety of wildlife. Shaba’s rocky kopjes (isolated hills) and natural springs contrast with the open savannahs and scrub desert of Buffalo Springs and Samburu. Elephant, giraffe, Grevy’s zebra and Somali ostriches are common here. Overnight: Ashnil Samburu Camp (breakfast, lunch and dinner included).

Day 5- Aberdares

Head back across the Equator and on to the Aberdares area, arriving at your lodge in time for lunch (240 km). Serena Mountain Lodge offers a matchless game viewing opportunity, whilst combining a glorious panorama of mountain vistas with the primordial splendours of an ancient rainforest. Considered the most spectacular forest waterhole in the Aberdares, the lodge's waterhole attracts a near constant stream of wildlife. Spend the afternoon viewing game from the lodge, or join a nature walk led by a local guide (payable locally and weather permitting). Overnight: Serena Mountain Lodge (breakfast, lunch and dinner included).

Day 6 - Lake Nakuru / Lake Naivasha

After breakfast, descend into the Great Rift Valley and continue to Lake Nakuru Lodge for lunch (240 km). In the afternoon you’ll go on a game drive around the small but beautifully formed national park. Rhino sightings are common, and flamingoes congregating on the lake shore give the area a pink tinge. Later, drive to Lake Naivasha (80 km - approximately 1 hour) and check in to your lodge, which is set in beautiful grounds with green acacias surrounding the lake, host to a variety of game including giraffes, buffaloes and the elusive black faced colobus monkey. In and around the lake many hippos can be seen wallowing in the water or grazing within the lodge grounds. Overnight: Lake Naivasha Sopa Lodge (breakfast, lunch and dinner included).

Day 7 - Masai Mara

Drive to the Masai Mara National Reserve (320 km), arriving in time for lunch at your camp. Ashnil Mara Camp is perfectly positioned at the confluence of the Mara and Olkeju Rivers in the Masai Mara National Reserve, with tents sitting alongside the riverbank. This is an unrivalled position for wildlife spotting, and is close to the action during the annual wildebeest migration. After lunch a game drive will introduce you to this incredible game reserve. Overnight: Ashnil Mara Camp (breakfast, lunch and dinner included).

Day 8 - Masai Mara

Enjoy an early morning game drive followed by breakfast at the lodge - alternatively, there’s an opportunity for a hot air balloon ride over the Masai Mara (optional extra) in the early morning, followed by breakfast (complete with sparkling wine) in the bush - it’s an amazing experience, and one we’d highly recommend. In the afternoon a second game drive will show you more of the Masai Mara’s wildlife. Overnight: Ashnil Mara Camp (breakfast, lunch and dinner included).

Day 9 - Mombasa

Return to Nairobi by road (300 km), or for a supplement there's the option to fly by light aircraft from the Masai Mara to Nairobi (do bear in mind that this limits your luggage allowance for the whole safari). Transfer to Nairobi airport for your flight to Mombasa, where you’ll be met at the airport and transferred to the wonderfully relaxing Diamonds Dream of Africa, for five nights of relaxation.

Days 10-13 - Mombasa

Spend a week relaxing on the beautiful shores of Malindi, and exploring Mombasa - if you can drag yourself away from the beach!

Day 14 - Return

Return transfer to the airport for your flight back to the UK.
