HOME > Kenya > Safari Itineraries > Kili Safari
This short safari itinerary is packed with interest, from stunning views of Mount Kilimanjaro and the diversity of the Great Rift Valley to the open plains of the Masai Mara, providing excellent wildlife-viewing opportunities. With no age restrictions for children at the lodges, this is also an ideal option for families.
ITINERARY
Day 1 - Depart
Fly from Heathrow to Nairobi, arriving the next day. Regional departures from around the UK are also available.
Day 2 - Amboseli
You’ll be met on arrival at Nairobi airport, and transferred to the nearby Safari Lounge, where you can freshen up and store any beach luggage that you don’t want to take on safari. Depart for Amboseli (250 km), arriving in time for lunch at your lodge. Set in expansive, mature gardens that face Africa's highest mountain Mount Kilimanjaro, the Amboseli Sopa Lodge is built within a 190-acre area of Masai country, and is an ideal base from which to enjoy numerous pursuits. After lunch enjoy an afternoon game drive in the surrounding area. Overnight: Amboseli Sopa Lodge (lunch and dinner included).
Day 3 - Amboseli
An early morning game drive followed by breakfast at the lodge. Amboseli is a fairly small park but is home to lion, buffalo, giraffe, zebra and more, with the landscape providing limited cover so you have a good chance of seeing some of the larger predators in their natural setting. Later, take an afternoon game drive. Overnight: Amboseli Sopa Lodge (breakfast, lunch and dinner included).
Day 4 - Lake Naivasha
After breakfast drive to Lake Naivasha in time for lunch (350 km). The rest of the day is at leisure. Lake Naivasha is at the heart of Kenya’s cut flower market as the lake’s fresh water contrasts to the soda lakes elsewhere. The lake is rich in fish and bird life, and is also home to pods of hippos. Overnight at Lake Naivasha Sopa Lodge (breakfast, lunch and dinner included).
Day 5 - Masai Mara
Depart early for your journey to the Masai Mara Game Reserve (270 km). Check in to your lodge - the Mara Sopa Lodge has been sympathetically built in traditional Masai style and its location provides ample opportunity for game viewing within the park, which is only a short drive away. The forested slopes of the Ngama Hills provide one of the more likely places to view the Mara's black rhino as well as offering some great elephant sightings on the fringes of the forest. In the afternoon you’ll go on a game drive in the Masai Mara, before returning to your lodge for dinner. Overnight at Mara Sopa Lodge (breakfast, lunch and dinner included).
Day 6 - Masai Mara
Enjoy an early morning game drive followed by breakfast at the lodge - alternatively, there’s an opportunity for a hot air balloon ride over the Masai Mara (optional extra) in the early morning, followed by breakfast (complete with sparkling wine) in the bush - it’s an amazing experience, and one we’d highly recommend. The Masai Mara is one of the most famous wildlife reserves in the world, and rightly so - the variety and quantity of wildlife found here is simply incredible, and most visitors are awestruck by the area. It’s one of our favourite places in the world! In the afternoon a second game drive will show you more of the Masai Mara’s wildlife. Overnight at Mara Sopa Lodge (breakfast, lunch and dinner included).
Day 7 - Depart
Return to Nairobi by road (335 km), or for a supplement there's the option to fly by light aircraft from the Masai Mara to Nairobi (do bear in mind that this limits your luggage allowance for the whole safari). When you arrive in to Nairobi proceed with your onward travel arrangement (breakfast included).
