SUGGESTED ITINERARY

Day 1 - UK to Victoria Falls

Fly from London to Livingstone, Zambia’s gateway to the Victoria Falls, arriving next day.

Day 2 - Victoria Falls, Zambia

You’ll be met at the airport and transferred to your hotel for a three night stay - different durations are available if you prefer, and there’s a range of hotels - albeit a fairly limited one - available.

Days 3-4 - Victoria Falls, Zambia

During your time here be sure to see the Victoria Falls from various angles - up close the footpaths give spectacular views (you’re likely to get wet!) but for the ultimate view take to the skies with a helicopter trip.

Day 5 - Livingstone to Cape Town

Transfer back to Livingstone airport for your onward flight to Cape Town. On arrival you'll be transferred to to your chosen hotel, for a three night stay - we have a wide selection of hotels to choose from in Cape Town, and your duration here is flexible.

We generally don’t suggest you have a car in Cape Town as the traffic can get a little busy, parking can be tricky and most things are easy to get to. If you’d prefer to collect a car when you arrive and have it for your full duration, however, just let us know and we can arrange this for you!

Days 6-7 - Cape Town

Spend the next few days exploring Cape Town, one of our favourite cities. We find that the Hop-On Hop-Off sightseeing buses are a great way to explore, taking in all the central areas as well as Table Mountain, Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens, Hout Bay and Camps Bay.

Day 8 - Cape Town to the Winelands

Collect your car from the Cape Town depot - costs include a Toyota Corolla or similar, although there’s a good selection of options available. Leave Cape Town behind and drive to the Winelands - the direct drive can be done in an hour or so, but we’d really recommend travelling via the beautiful Cape Peninsula, setting off via the spectacular Chapman’s Peak Drive and taking in Hout Bay, the Cape of Good Hope and the penguins at Boulder Beach - this should take around three hours, plus stops. On arrival, check in to your chosen hotel for a two night stay - this is flexible, of course!

Driving is fairly straightforward in South Africa, with well maintained roads which are generally fairly quiet outside of the main towns. Driving is on the left and most laws and customs are familiar to UK drivers. Do bear in mind that all drivers will need a valid drivers licence plus the DVLA online code and printout, along with a credit card in the name of the main driver for deposit purposes. Other T&C’s apply - just ask for details!

Day 9 - Winelands

Spend the next few days exploring the beautiful Winelands area. Get to know the three towns of the Winelands area - Stellenbosch, Franschhoek and Paarl. The whole region is a foodie paradise so be sure to check out some of the superb restaurants.

Day 10 - Winelands to Swellendam

It’s around a 2-2.5 hour drive from the Winelands to Swellendam in the Little Karoo, although the 3.5 hour route around False Bay to the penguins at Betty’s Bay and the whales at Hermanus, would be our suggestion. On arrival in to Swellendam check in to your hotel for an overnight stay.

Day 11 - Swellendam to Knysna

Continue from Swellendam to the Garden Route and on to Knysna (approx 3 hours), with plenty to see on the way - perhaps take in the history of Mossel Bay, a spot of surfing at Herold’s Bay, stop in Wilderness to see if you can spot any dolphins in the sea, and check out the peaceful beach at Buffalo Bay. On arrival in to Knysna, check in to your hotel for a two night stay.

Day 12 - Knysna

Consider taking a day off driving today and perhaps head to the water - Knysna Lagoon is a beautiful area and boat trips are popular here. Alternatively, sample some of Knysna’s renowned food in one of the numerous restaurants.

Day 13 - Knysna to the Eastern Cape Game Reserves

From Knysna it’s around a four hour drive to the game reserves of the Eastern Cape, but with lots to see and do on the way. Stop for coffee in pretty Plettenberg Bay before continuing to the beautiful Tsitsikamma area, perhaps taking in some of the magnificent forest and coastal scenery on a hike. Be sure to stop briefly at Bloukrans Bridge, a spectacular crossing of a deep river valley and home to one of the world’s highest bungee jumps, with perhaps a final stop of the day in Port Elizabeth before arriving at your chosen game reserve for a three night stay. Be sure to arrive in good time as there’s an afternoon game drive arranged this afternoon!

Days 14-15 - Eastern Cape Game Reserves

Spend the next few days on safari - park up your car as you’re in the hands of the experts, with morning and afternoon game drives in the reserve to see as much wildlife as possible. Many of the game reserves are home to the ‘big 5’, so expect superb wildlife sighting and a real thrill.

Day 16 - Return

Drive back to Port Elizabeth and the airport today (approx 1.5-2 hours), where you will drop off your vehicle and check in for your flight back to the UK.
