Combine Kenya’s incredible Masai Mara with the best of Tanzania, on this incredible itinerary. Start by flying by light aircraft to the Masai Mara for a three night stay before continuing to Tanzania to pick up our popular 6-night ‘Serena Serengeti’ Safari. Classic locations in both Kenya & Tanzania.
ITINERARY
Day 1 - Depart
Fly from Heathrow to Nairobi, arriving next day. Regional departures from around the UK are also available.
Day 2 - Masai Mara
You’ll be met on arrival at Nairobi airport, and transferred to the nearby Safari Lounge, where you can freshen up and store any beach luggage that you don’t want to take on safari - flying safaris include a luggage allowance of 15 kg per person. Then transfer to Wilson airport for your light aircraft flight to the Masai Mara (approximately 1 hour). You’ll be met at your airstrip by a vehicle from your lodge or camp and transferred to your accommodation. After lunch a game drive will introduce you to this incredible game reserve. Overnight: Ashnil Mara Camp (lunch and dinner included).
Days 3-4 - Masai Mara
Enjoy two full days with morning and afternoon game drives in this outstanding national park. On one morning, there’s an opportunity for a hot air balloon ride over the Masai Mara (optional extra) in the early morning, followed by breakfast (complete with sparkling wine) in the bush - it’s an amazing experience, and one we’d highly recommend. The rest of the morning is at leisure before lunch. In the afternoon a second game drive will show you more of the Masai Mara’s wildlife. The Masai Mara is a truly exceptional area, and your time here will be like working your way through a wildlife guidebook - being a fairly small reserve it’s easy to get fairly close to the wildlife. Overnight: Ashnil Mara Camp (breakfast, lunch and dinner included).
Day 5 - Arusha
After breakfast you’ll be taken to the airstrip for the light aircraft flight back to Nairobi (approximately 1 hour), from where you will transfer to the main airport for the short flight to Kilimanjaro. You'll be met on arrival at Kilimanjaro airport and transferred to the Arusha Serena Hotel, a journey of approximately 45 minutes. The hotel is a haven of calm and serenity away from the hustle and bustle of Arusha itself. Overnight: Arusha Serena Hotel (lunch and dinner included).
Day 6 - Lake Manyara
After breakfast drive to Lake Manyara National Park, famous for its tree-climbing lions (150 km). Your lodge is a unique property in a spectacular setting on the edge of the Mto Wa Mbu escarpment, overlooking the Great Rift Valley and Lake Manyara. After lunch a game drive will introduce you to the local area’s wildlife. Overnight: Lake Manyara Serena Safari Lodge (breakfast, lunch and dinner included).
Day 7 - Serengeti
Drive to the world-famous Serengeti National Park with game viewing en route (235 km). The Serengeti is Tanzania’s largest and most famous national park, and has vast plains that are home to tens of thousands of wildebeest, zebra and other hoofed animals that are always on the hunt for new grass. This then brings in large carnivores such as lion and cheetah, making the Serengeti one of the best places in Africa for game viewing. Overnight: Serengeti Serena Safari Lodge (breakfast, lunch and dinner included).
Day 8 - Serengeti
Have breakfast at your lodge before heading out in to the Serengeti on a full-day game drive with a picnic lunch. There’s also an opportunity for a hot air balloon ride over the Serengeti (optional extra) in the early morning, followed by breakfast (complete with sparkling wine) in the bush - it’s an amazing experience, and one we’d highly recommend. Inspired by a traditional African village, the Serengeti Serena Safari Lodge offers rooms which are housed in individual thatched huts, furnished with authentic African furniture and handicrafts, with balconies overlooking the awesome expanse of the Serengeti. Overnight: Serengeti Serena Safari Lodge (breakfast, lunch and dinner included).
Day 9 - Ngorongoro
Drive to the iconic Ngorongoro Crater via Olduvai Gorge (200 km). Lunch at your lodge which is perched on the jagged rim of the Crater - the Ngorongoro Serena Safari Lodge is a triumph of ecological and architectural fusion, where the lodge's stone outlook, nestled amongst granite rock outcrops perfectly blends in with its surroundings. The afternoon is at leisure. Overnight: Ngorongoro Serena Safari Lodge (breakfast, lunch and dinner included).
Day 10 - Ngorongoro
Today you’ll head down into the Crater for a full-day of game viewing with a picnic lunch. The Ngorongoro Crater is an extinct volcano that’s very rich in wildlife, with elephants, rhinos, wildebeest, zebras, buffaloes, gazelles and big cats all making their home here. If time permits you’ll visit a local Masai village. Overnight: Ngorongoro Serena Safari Lodge (breakfast, lunch and dinner included).
Day 11 - Depart
Drive back to Arusha (200 km) and have lunch at a local restaurant. Later, transfer to the airport for your onward travel arrangements (breakfast and lunch included).
