Combine two of our most popular safari itineraries to take in the very best of Kenya and Tanzania, on this incredible journey. Start in Kenya where your week includes beautiful Samburu and the iconic Masai Mara, along with the Central Highlands and the Great Rift Valley. Then continue to Tanzania for a further six nights of excitement covering Lake Manyara, the amazing Serengeti and fabulous Ngorongoro Crater. High standards of accommodation make this a journey to remember.
Day 1 - Depart
Fly from Heathrow to Nairobi, arriving next day. Regional departures from around the UK are also available.
Day 2 - Aberdares
On arrival you’ll be met at the airport and transferred to the Safari Lounge, where you can freshen up and store any additional luggage before departing for the Aberdares (180 km - approximately 4 hours). Arrive in time for lunch and spend the afternoon relaxing, or on a nature walk with the resident naturalist (weather permitting). Overnight: Aberdare Country Club (lunch and dinner included).
Day 3 - Samburu
Drive north across the equator to the Samburu National Reserve (190 km - approximately 4 hours). Samburu is home to some of the most unique wildlife in Kenya and a host of birds. Your stay is at the deluxe Ashnil Samburu Camp, spread out along the shady banks of the Ewaso Nyiro River, under a thick stand of doum palms and acacia trees that are a feature of the area. Lunch before a late afternoon game drive. Overnight: Ashnil Samburu Camp (breakfast, lunch and dinner included).
Day 4 - Samburu
Morning and late afternoon game drives in this open savannah which is traversed by the Ewaso Nyiro River. The river is populated by hippos and crocodiles, whilst the park is home to a host of animals including several species which are rarely seen in numbers elsewhere, including Grevy's zebra, reticulated giraffes and long-necked gerenuks. Overnight: Ashnil Samburu Camp (breakfast, lunch and dinner included).
Day 5 - Aberdares
Drive to your lodge in time for lunch (240 km - approximately 4 hours). Spend the afternoon viewing game from the lodge, or join a nature walk led by a local guide (payable locally and weather permitting). Overnight: Serena Mountain Lodge (breakfast, lunch and dinner included).
Day 6 - Lake Nakuru-Lake Naivasha
After breakfast, descend into the Great Rift Valley and continue to Lake Nakuru Lodge (240 km - approximately 4 hours). At Lake Nakuru thousands of pink flamingoes tint the horizon. Around the lake a game reserve has been created where the endangered black rhino is protected and may be seen along with antelope, giraffes, lions and hyenas. Lunch. Afternoon game drive in the national park. Drive to Lake Naivasha (80 km - approximately 1 hour). Overnight: Lake Naivasha Sopa Lodge (breakfast, lunch and dinner included).
Day 7 - Masai Mara
Drive to the Masai Mara National Reserve (320 km - approximately 5.5 hours). Arrive in time for lunch followed by an afternoon game drive. The magnificent Masai Mara, famed for its vast numbers of plains game and the spectacular big cats. Here you stay in the luxury Ashnil Mara Camp, which offers an unrivalled position for wildlife spotting, and is close to the action during the annual wildebeest migration. Overnight: Ashnil Mara Camp (lunch and dinner included).
Day 8 - Masai Mara
Enjoy an early morning game drive followed by breakfast at the lodge. Alternatively, take an early morning balloon flight over the Mara followed by a 'bubbly' bush breakfast (optional extra). After lunch, relax before a late afternoon game drive. Overnight: Ashnil Mara Camp (lunch and dinner included).
Day 9 - Arusha
After breakfast, return to Nairobi by road (300 km - 5 hours), or fly from the Masai Mara to Nairobi: morning flight (price on request); lunch in the Masai Mara and afternoon flight (price on request). On arrival transfer to the main airport for your onward flight to Arusha. On arrival at Kilimanjaro / Arusha airport, met and transferred to Lake Duluti Serena (approximately 45 minutes), a haven of calm and serenity away from the hustle and bustle of Arusha. Overnight: Lake Duluti Serena Hotel (lunch and dinner included).
Day 10 - Lake Manyara
After breakfast drive to Lake Manyara National Park (150 km - approximately 2 hours 30 minutes). Your lodge commands panoramic views across the floor of the Great Rift Valley. Here you have time to relax before an afternoon game drive. This unusual park lies in the shadow of the Great Rift Valley whose reddish brown escarpment wall looms on the eastern horizon. The park is particularly known for its tree-climbing lions, who may be seen sleeping off the heat of the day on a branch instead of a shady spot on the ground. Overnight: Lake Manyara Serena Safari Lodge (breakfast, lunch and dinner included).
Day 11 - Serengeti
Drive to the world-famous Serengeti National Park with game viewing en route (235 km - approximately 5 hours). Overnight: Serengeti Serena Safari Lodge (breakfast, lunch and dinner included).
Day 12 - Serengeti
Serengeti means 'endless plain' in the Masai language. Here there are vast open savannahs dotted with acacia trees and a few rocky hillocks. The Serengeti is Tanzania's largest and best-known national park, with a massive concentration of migratory animals who move around the park according to the availability of food. Breakfast followed by a full-day game drive with a picnic lunch. Or take an early morning balloon flight over the Serengeti followed by a 'bubbly' bush breakfast (optional extra) before a full-day game drive. Overnight: Serengeti Serena Safari Lodge (breakfast, lunch and dinner included).
Day 13 - Ngorongoro
Drive to the Ngorongoro Crater via Olduvai Gorge (200 km - approximately 4 hours). Lunch at your lodge which is perched on the jagged rim of the Crater. The afternoon is at leisure. Overnight: Ngorongoro Serena Safari Lodge (breakfast, lunch and dinner included).
Day 14 - Ngorongoro
The Ngorongoro Crater is the world's largest unbroken volcanic caldera whose steep sides form a natural enclosure for a wide variety of wildlife. An estimated 25,000 animals, including the 'big five' inhabit the interior of the crater. Drive down into the Crater for a full-day of game viewing with a picnic lunch. This extinct volcano plays host to wildebeest, zebras, buffaloes, gazelles, elephants, rhinos and big cats. Visit a local Masai village (time permitting). Overnight: Ngorongoro Serena Safari Lodge (breakfast, lunch and dinner included).
Day 15 - Depart
Return to Arusha (200 km - approximately 3.5 hours). Lunch at a local restaurant. Transfer to the airport for your onward travel arrangements (breakfast and lunch included).
