Hot Air Ballooning
Experience the thrill of a hot air balloon at down over the Serengeti, available on this itinerary.
From £490 per person
Our most popular Tanzania safari, the 6-night Serena Serengeti Safari is an extraordinary journey through contrasting landscapes, staying in Serena properties which are situated in some of the finest locations in the parks. The itinerary gives excellent opportunities for game viewing in Lake Manyara, the Serengeti and the Ngorongoro Crater.
Day 1 - Depart
Fly from Heathrow to Arusha, arriving next day. Regional departures from around the UK are also available.
Day 2 - Arusha
You'll be met on arrival at Kilimanjaro airport and transferred to the Arusha Serena Hotel, a journey of approximately 45 minutes. The hotel is a haven of calm and serenity away from the hustle and bustle of Arusha itself. Overnight: Arusha Serena Hotel (lunch and dinner included).
Day 3 - Lake Manyara
After breakfast drive to Lake Manyara National Park, famous for its tree-climbing lions (150 km). Your lodge is a unique property in a spectacular setting on the edge of the Mto Wa Mbu escarpment, overlooking the Great Rift Valley and Lake Manyara. After lunch a game drive will introduce you to the local area’s wildlife. Overnight: Lake Manyara Serena Safari Lodge (breakfast, lunch and dinner included).
Day 4 - Serengeti
Drive to the world-famous Serengeti National Park with game viewing en route (235 km). The Serengeti is Tanzania’s largest and most famous national park, and has vast plains that are home to tens of thousands of wildebeest, zebra and other hoofed animals that are always on the hunt for new grass. This then brings in large carnivores such as lion and cheetah, making the Serengeti one of the best places in Africa for game viewing. Overnight: Serengeti Serena Safari Lodge (breakfast, lunch and dinner included).
Day 5 - Serengeti
Have breakfast at your lodge before heading out in to the Serengeti on a full-day game drive with a picnic lunch. There’s also an opportunity for a hot air balloon ride over the Serengeti (optional extra) in the early morning, followed by breakfast (complete with sparkling wine) in the bush - it’s an amazing experience, and one we’d highly recommend. Inspired by a traditional African village, the Serengeti Serena Safari Lodge offers rooms which are housed in individual thatched huts, furnished with authentic African furniture and handicrafts, with balconies overlooking the awesome expanse of the Serengeti. Overnight: Serengeti Serena Safari Lodge (breakfast, lunch and dinner included).
Day 6 - Ngorongoro
Drive to the iconic Ngorongoro Crater via Olduvai Gorge (200 km). Lunch at your lodge which is perched on the jagged rim of the Crater - the Ngorongoro Serena Safari Lodge is a triumph of ecological and architectural fusion, where the lodge's stone outlook, nestled amongst granite rock outcrops perfectly blends in with its surroundings. The afternoon is at leisure. Overnight: Ngorongoro Serena Safari Lodge (breakfast, lunch and dinner included).
Day 7 - Ngorongoro
Today you’ll head down into the Crater for a full-day of game viewing with a picnic lunch. The Ngorongoro Crater is an extinct volcano that’s very rich in wildlife, with elephants, rhinos, wildebeest, zebras, buffaloes, gazelles and big cats all making their home here. If time permits you’ll visit a local Masai village. Overnight: Ngorongoro Serena Safari Lodge (breakfast, lunch and dinner included).
Day 8 - Beach
Drive back to Arusha (200 km) and have lunch at a local restaurant. Transfer to the airport for your flight to Mombasa or Zanzibar. You’ll be met on arrival and transferred to your chosen beach hotel - prices here include a week on the beach but pretty much any duration is possible. Spend the next week relaxing on the beach.
Day 15 - Return
Return transfer to the airport for your flight back to the UK.
