Windhoek, the capital of Namibia, is located in a basin between the Khomas Highland, Auas and Eros Mountains, and is the start and end point for most visitors. Very much a German influenced city with an African feel, Windhoek is a small city which offers a fair amount of cafés and restaurants where German food dominates but with a Namibian influence.
Outside of the city is some stunning scenery and easily accessible wildlife, which makes an alternative place to stay at the start or end of your trip. To the north, the Waterberg Plateau offers incredible scenery dotted with hiking trails, while to the south private game reserves such as Gocheganas will give you a taste of Namibia’s incredible wildlife.
