Enjoy the thrill of safari - then eat some of the animals you've just seen in their natural setting! The renowned Carnivore Restaurant in Nairobi serves all sorts of meats including giraffe, waterbuck, zebra, crocodile and Hartebeest, while many of the Mombasa beach hotels also serve game meats for special evening meals.
There's something not quite right about dining on the very wildlife you've come all this way to see, but at the same time, there aren't many places to try these kinds of unusual meats. At the Nyali Beach Hotel in Mombasa, they occasionally arrange a barbecue evening of local meats, giving visitors to Kenya the opportunity to try the likes of crocodile and giraffe, along side more common meats such as chicken and beef - it's a great way to sample these unusual options, or to stick to more familiar fare if you're not too sure. The crocodile in particular is excellent - and apparently, a healthy option too!
The renowned Carnivore restaurant in Nairobi has become a bit of a local institution, serving a variety of meats grilled over a huge fire. The restaurant is about 20 minutes from the city centre, and offers lunch and dinner servings. Waiters bring huge skewers of meats around to diners, and carve straight to your plate. Specialities often include giraffe, warthog, crocodile and gazelle, but don't worry if you're not a meat-eater - there's also a vegetarian option! |
