Bear
witness to the crimes against humanity perpetrated by the
Khmer Rouge in the mid 1970s. The experience begins with a
visit to Toul Sleng (S-21), the former high school converted
into a prison. Survivors were few, with almost all detainees
ending their days within the prison walls, or at the Killing
Fields of Choeung Ek. Situated ten miles outside of the city,
here just under 20,000 men, women and children were executed.
A central Memorial Stupa containing the skulls of over 8,000
victims provides a sombre epitaph. |
