ITINERARY
The
exciting Thailand Discovery tour is an adventure that will take you to the
far North of this exquisite country, close to the border with Burma and Laos at the ‘Golden Triangle’. A
memorable experience with excellent sightseeing from the spectacles of Bangkok, majestic temples of the original
capital Sukhothai, through jungles, past rivers,
visiting hilltribes, elephant camps and monasteries
and followed by a choice of optional beach stays for relaxation.
DAY 1 - Depart
Fly Thai Airways from Heathrow to Bangkok, arriving the following morning
for a two night stay in a Superior room at the Arnoma.
DAY 3 - Bangkok
Today enjoy a half day guided tour of the Grand Palace and famous temple of the Emerald
Buddha.
DAY 4 - Sukhothai
Depart Bangkok, journeying north to the Summer Palace of Bang-Pa-In and the
ancient capital Ayuthaya. Drive through scenic
countryside to Lopburi visiting the Kala shrine and on to Phitsanuloke,
spread along the banks of the Nan River (approx. 271 miles).
DAY 5 – Chiang Rai
Today visit Sukhothai and its magnificent temples,
monasteries and awe-inspiring Buddha statues before journeying through
tropical jungle to Chiang Rai (approx. 292 miles).
DAY 6 – Chiang Rai
An early start, and change vehicles for the ascent into the mountains and
visit a nearby Akha Hill tribe. Return to the
valley for lunch before driving to Mae Sai, on the
Burmese border. Continue to the heart of the Golden Triangle where the Ruak and Mekong Rivers meet. An optional boat trip is
offered before returning to Chiang Rai (approx. 135
miles).
DAY 7 – Chiang Mai
Journey through splendid mountain scenery to Chiang Mai. Climb the 290 steps
up to Wat Phrathat Doi Suthep for panoramic views
(there is a cable car for the less energetic) (approx. 114 miles).
DAY 8 – Chiang Mai
This morning your tour takes you to the elephant camp where you can admire
these gentle giants as they work. After lunch you will see many of the
handicrafts, for which Chiang Mai is famed.
DAY 9 - Beach
Transfer to the airport for your onward flight to your chosen beach resort,
for a 7 night stay
DAY 16 - Return
Return to Bangkok to connect with your Thai Airways flight to Heathrow.
