The Cameron Highlands are part of the ‘real Malaysia’ and were
named after William Cameron, who discovered this beautiful area
of gentle slopes and lofty mountains in 1885. The Chinese realised
that the high altitude was ideal for cultivation and began farming
the valley floors, where tea became one of its most prized crops.
An intriguing side trip into colonial times and not to be missed.
Day 1 KL/Cameron Highlands: Take a scenic journey
to the Cameron Highlands, a vast hill station 1500 metres above sea level. Begin your ascent at Tapah, climbing mountain roads lined with giant tree ferns and pretty waterfalls. If you are very lucky then you may sight Aborigines on a hunt, armed with blow pipes and poisoned darts. Spend two nights at the Strawberry Park Resort (other hotel options are also available).
Day 2 Cameron Highlands: Morning exploration of some of the region's most renowned landscapes including colourful fruit and vegetable farms, a flower garden, tea plantation and agricultural station. Enjoy the fresh cool mountain air and spend the rest of the day at leisure, perhaps with English tea at Ye Old Smokehouse or golf at the 18-hole course.
Day 3 Cameron Highlands/KL or Penang: Enjoy the breathtaking
scenery before your return journey to KL or Penang. |
