DAY
1 Depart
from Hanoi this morning with a Vietnam Airlines flight to Dien Bien
Phu, a town in northwestern Vietnam. Upon arrival transfer to your
hotel for check-in. Later visit the scene of one of the most significant
battles in the history of France’s involvement in Vietnam,
the notorious A-1 hill and tour the former French command post that
was overrun by Viet Minh forces in 1954.
DAY 2 Enjoy a day winding your way through the
picturesque Vietnamese countryside. Leave Dien Bien Phu after breakfast
along the snaking road to Binh Lu, home of the Black Dao minority
and a breathtaking location surrounded by bowls of rice paddies
fringed by the dominant Hoang Lien Son mountain range. Continue
your climb though the mountains and rolling hills to Sapa, passing
through regions of outstanding natural beauty en route. Upon arrival
in Sapa, transfer to the Victoria Hotel for two nights and enjoy
a delicious dinner.
DAY 3 Wake early and after breakfast take a memorable
trip to the Bac Ha market. Surrounded in a sea of colour this market
remains an important meeting place for the minority groups and tribes
that dot these mountainous regions. See local H’mong women
in traditional dress selling their wares, old ladies gossip in the
corner while men in horse drawn carts arrive with goods for sale.
After lunch explore Ban Po village by foot before departing for
Sapa. Take in the stunning scenery en route before returning to
the Victoria Hotel for your overnight stay.
DAY 4 Wake early and depart to Ta Van village (4,000 feet)
to visit the Giay tribe. This small minority group of about 38,000
people live mainly in the mountains of northwest Vietnam. Explore
a little of their village and experience some of their local customs
and traditions. Continue onwards by foot to the Cat Cat village,
home of the Black H’mong tribe, meet the locals and see them
go about their daily lives. Transfer to Lao Cai and your overnight
train journey to Hanoi (four berth shared cabin).
DAY 5 Arrive Hanoi early in the morning before
transferring to your chosen hotel.
