| The
overland passage from Vientiane to Luang Prabang is best undertaken
with a break in rural Vang Vieng. Here absorb the stunning limestone
Karst scenery and take time to explore the fabulous surrounding
countryside.

DAY 1
Depart Vientiane this morning for your journey along highway 10
to Vang Vieng. On your journey north through this mountainous region
enjoy stops at local villages and take in the dramatic scenery that
surrounds this
remote and mountainous region of Laos. Before arriving in Vang Vieng
rest at Nam Ngum Lake, this inland lake and its dam provide a source
of water for the country and many of its islands are inhabited by
local villagers. Arrive in Vang Vieng in time for lunch at a local
restaurant. Famous amongst backpackers the scenery dwarfs the small
town of Vang Vieng and its riverside setting. This afternoon enjoy
a boat trip on the Nam Song River to take in your surroundings.
Spend a little time at leisure to explore this small town before
arriving at your basic accommodation for dinner and your overnight
stay.
DAY 2 Enjoy a day exploring the abundant nature
surrounding Vang Vieng with a combination of biking and trekking
with kayaking also available.
DAY 3 Depart Vang Vieng this morning and continue
towards the World Heritage site of Luang Prabang. Journey by mountainous
and winding roads taking time to stop off and enjoy the scenery
at viewpoints along the way. Later today rest at the village of
Phoukhoun, a small village at an altitude of 5,250 feet and home
to a daily market that thrives with traders selling local produce
from villages within the mountains. Continue your journey along
snaking roads passing Kamu and H’mong villages with a stop
at Houn Xay village to explore village life and its daily routines.
Arrive in Luang Prabang late afternoon and transfer to your chosen
hotel.
