In the mountainous area north of Luang Prabang the Nam Ou is one of the most important rivers in Laos, its banks are home to many small villages and many caves can be found in the surrounding mountains.

Group two day tour from Luang Prabang. Includes return transfers, accommodation and sightseeing as detailed, lunch and dinner on Day 1 and breakfast and lunch on Day 2. Also available as a two night tour.

DAY 1 You will be picked up at your hotel and driven about three hours through the mountains north of Luang Prabang to Nong Kiao. After lunch at your simple guesthouse you will embark on a traditional boat journey to Muang Ngoi Kao, about one hour upstream. From here take a walk through the village and continue to Tham Kang, where local villagers hid in the caves to escape the bombing during the Vietnam War. Return by boat to Nong Kiao.

DAY 2 Early risers will have the opportunity to spend some time exploring the surroundings or bathe in the Nam Ou river. Return by boat to Luang Prabang, where we recommend you book an extra night’s stay, passing spectacular landscapes and observing daily life on the riverbanks. En route you will stop at Ban Pak Ou to visit the Pak Ou Caves, home to hundreds of Buddha statues.

IMPORTANT NOTE: All Tours Suitable walking shoes, waterproofs, sunscreen, insect repellent, toilet paper, torch light, change of clothes, soap, towel, swimsuit and a sense of adventure are needed. Tours to the regions are limited to a small number of tourists and it is advisable to book early. An overnight stay in the respective city is recommended before your tour starts.
