DAY 1
Meet your Tour Manager at Heathrow who will accompany you throughout
China. British Airways overnight flight from Heathrow to Beijing,
arrive the next morning and transfer to the Shangri-La Beijing hotel
for a three night stay. Relax overnight and in the morning a full
day tour of Beijing awaits beginning at Tian’anmen Square.
Built in 1417, it has long been a place of gathering and is central
to many landmarks in Chinese history. Later discover the treasures
of the Forbidden City, where a mesmerising complex of imperial palaces
detail the lavish lifestyles of the 24 Emperors who lived here in
pampered isolation. Continue on to the peaceful Summer Palace, a
seasonal retreat for the Qing Emperors on the outer edges of the
city. Expansive classical lakeland gardens, traditional temples
and beautiful pavilions all enhance the serenity and beauty of the
Palace and its surrounds. The evening is at leisure with an optional
Peking Opera experience available.
DAY 4
A full day visit to one of the most recognisable icons of China,
the Great Wall. An outstanding feat of human endeavour, enjoy a
scenic walk along a fortified section at the less crowded Mutianyu
section and absorb the breathtaking views that envelop you. After
lunch return to Beijing and the rest of the day is at leisure.
DAY 5
Begin the day with a visit to the beautiful Temple of Heaven, China’s
largest temple and altar complex and revered as the most perfect
example of Ming architecture. Late in the afternoon fly with China
Eastern Airlines to Xi’an, home to one of the most famous
wonders of Chinese civilisation, the magnificent Terracotta Warriors.
The historic city of Xi’an itself delights with unmissable
attractions and a vibrant Muslim Quarter. Upon arrival transfer
to the Shangri-La Golden Flower hotel for two nights. The rest of
the afternoon is at your leisure.
DAY 6
Begin the day with a visit to the world renowned Terracotta Warriors.
Learn the history of the 8,000 soldiers that stand guard over the
tomb of the first Emperor of the Qin Dynasty and view up close their
intricate detailing. After lunch, return to Xi’an and visit
the Great Mosque, Muslim Quarter and the imposing Big Wild Goose
Pagoda, built in 648 as a memorial to Crown Prince Li Zhi’s
mother. We end the tour with a walk on the historic city walls.

DAY 7
Following breakfast transfer to the airport for your flight to Shanghai
with China Eastern Airlines, stopping en route to visit the historic
Han Yang Tombs, where a recent excavation has revealed over 40,000
burial objects, including Terracotta Warriors, chariots and weapons.
Arrive in Shanghai and transfer to the Pudong Shangri-La hotel.
The following morning a full day tour includes the cultural and
artistic exhibitions of the Shanghai Museum, a relaxing stroll along
the ornate Bund, Shanghai's riverside collection of grand colonial
buildings and enjoy a short cruise along the Huangpu River. After
lunch step back in time with a visit to the Old Town of Shanghai.
Return to your hotel and the rest of the evening is at leisure.
DAY 9
A full day tour of the beautiful city of Suzhou begins at the enchanting
Garden of the Humble Administrator and the serene Garden of the
Master of the Nets, where a tranquil world of bridges and ponds,
plants and pavilions awaits. Continue with a boat ride along the
Grand Canal, passing the maze of narrow streets and captivating
stone houses that criss-cross the Old Town. Return to Shanghai for
an evening at leisure.
DAY 10
After breakfast drive to Hangzhou, one of China’s most picturesque
cities. Stay two nights at the Shangri-La Hangzhou, situated on
the banks of the West Lake and enjoy the rest of the day at leisure.
Begin the following day with a visit to the picturesque West Lake,
framed by majestic peaks and lined with elegant pavilions and ornate
bridges. Enjoy a boat road on its calm waters to fully appreciate
its natural beauty and splendour. Later wander one of the most famous
Buddhist Temples in China, the Lingyin Temple, originally built
in 326 and restored on many occasions since. Return to Hangzhou
and the rest of the day is at leisure.
DAY 12
Fly with Dragonair to the former British colony of Hong Kong. Arrive
early evening and transfer to the Shangri-La Kowloon for two nights
with plenty of time for some optional sightseeing or last minute
shopping.
DAY 14
Another full day in Hong Kong before transferring to the airport
early in the
evening for your British Airways flight to Heathrow arriving the
next day.
The Highlights of Shangri-La tour is accompanied from Day 1 to Day
14 by an experienced British Tour Manager from London.
