| A perennial favourite , this malaria-free 20,000 hectare game reserve is set
on the Bushmans River just a short drive from Port Elizabeth and makes an ideal start or
end to a journey along the coast. Boasting six different lodges, it is ideal for families and
couples alike. Steeped in history, the former settlers land has been reclaimed and returned
to the wildlife that once roamed freely on the Cape.
The on-site Born Free Environmental Education Centre is a popular attraction after a game
drive and is visited by around 750 local school children every month, where species
conservation and habitat protection is promoted. In addition to the morning and evening
game drives seeking out the resident ‘Big 5’ and plains game, other activities available
include tennis, swimming, bush walks and spa treatments. Luxury accommodation is
offered throughout the reserve in the six lodges, each with it’s own unique character and
charm.
EAGLES CRAG
The ultimate luxury, adult-only lodge built of thatch, stone and glass and offering privacy
and tranquillity. each of the nine superior rooms boasts a private deck with pool, indoor
and outdoor showers, floor-to-ceiling glass walls offering stunning views of the surrounding
cliffs. The upper floor houses the dining room, lounge, library and cocktail bar.
LOBENGULA LODGE
A traditional African experience tucked deep in the valley, ethnically decorated and with
appreciated facilities such as swimming pool, spa and gym. A magnificent wooden deck is
home to lavish meals around the fire and all rooms are furnished comfortably in native
tones, with airconditioning and en suite bathrooms. The Chief suite boasts a large private
lounge with fireplace, and a pool.
