This tour visits all of Namibia's 'hot-spots' including Etosha National Park, one of the the most famous
wildlife reserves in Africa. Then on to Damaraland, a mountainous wilderness region renowned for its
outstanding natural beauty. Travel to Swakopmund with its colonial architecture, atmospheric streets and
delicious seafood, then finally to Sossusvlei in the heart of the Namib Desert and home to the world's
tallest sand dunes, some of which tower over 300 metres high. Watching the changing mood and colours
at sunrise and sunset is one of Namibia's highlights, as is climbing the dunes.
Day 1 Friday Heathrow–Windhoek
Overnight flight from Heathrow to Windhoek via
Johannesburg (plane change).
Day 2 Saturday Windhoek
Met on arrival and transferred to your hotel. The
remainder of the day is free to explore. Overnight:
Safari Court Hotel, or similar.
Day 3 Sunday Etosha National Park
Meet with other members of the group and travel via
Okahandja to Etosha National Park (400 km –
approximately 5 hours 30 minutes). Overnight: Etosha
Rest Camp, or similar (breakfast and dinner included).
Day 4 Monday Etosha National Park
A full day game drive, in a closed vehicle. Overnight:
Etosha Rest Camp, or similar (breakfast and dinner included).
Day 5 Tuesday Etosha National Park
A day in search of game in Etosha. After lunch at a rest
camp (payable locally), continue west through park to
the gate then travel 70 km – approximately 1 hour, to
your accommodation. Overnight: Namatubis Guest
Farm, or similar (breakfast and dinner included).
Day 6 Wednesday Damaraland
An early start to see the highlights of Damaraland –
one of the last true wilderness areas in Africa. Head
through Outjo, to Khorixas, the capital of this region.
Next pass through scenic landscapes and Damara
villages before reaching the Petrified Forest. Arrive at
your lodge at lunch time (250 km – approximately 3
hours 30 minutes). Overnight: Damara Mopane Lodge,
or similar (breakfast and dinner included).
Day 7 Thursday
Damaraland
Today visit the rock engravings at Twyfelfontein, the
fascinating geological features such as the Organ Pipes
and Burnt Mountain. Afternoon at leisure. Overnight:
Damara Mopane Lodge, or similar (breakfast and dinner included).
Day 8 Friday Swakopmund
Continue to Henties Bay, then proceed to the charming
coastal resort of Swakopmund where the remainder of
the day is at leisure (350 km – approximately 5 hours).
Overnight: Eberwein Hotel, or similar (breakfast included).
Day 9 Saturday Swakopmund
Day at leisure to take part in the many exciting activities
in Swakopmund. An absolute must is a living desert tour
where you learn about the creatures that live in the
desert. Overnight: Eberwein Hotel, or similar (breakfast included).
Day 10 Sunday Sossusvlei
Morning visits to Welwitchia and Moon Landscape en
route to the Namib Desert (350 km – approximately 5
hours). Overnight: Namib Desert Lodge, or similar (breakfast and dinner included).
Day 11 Monday Sossusvlei
Visit the dunes at Sossusvlei, with the opportunity to
climb to the top before returning to the lodge.
Overnight: Namib Desert Lodge, or similar (breakfast and dinner included).
Day 12 Tuesday Windhoek–Heathrow
Drive through the scenic Spreetshoogte Pass and on to
Windhoek airport for your flight via Johannesburg to
Heathrow, or your chosen extension. (350 km –
approximately 5 hours) (breakfast included).
Whilst self-drive holidays are popular in Namibia, with such long driving
distances on often un-tarred roads, it is often the preferred choice of many
first time visitors to take part in a small group tour.
