USA Fly-Drive - San Francisco to Las Vegas via Yosemite

One of our favourite USA Fly-Drive itineraries, crossing through Yosemite National Park on the way from San Fran to Vegas - you’ll also take in Death Valley for a truly spectacular journey.

ITINERARY

Day 1 - UK to San Francisco

Fly from London to San Francisco, arriving later the same day - departures from other UK airports are also available, please ask for details. On arrival make your way your hotel for a three night stay - we have a range to choose from, and your length of stay in San Francisco is flexible.

3 nights San Francisco - Harbor Court Hotel

Days 2-3 - San Francisco

Spend the next few days exploring San Francisco. Prebook our Fisherman’s Wharf and Waterfront Segway Tour (From £43 per person). A city as unique as San Francisco demands a one-of-a-kind way to tour it. And a fun Segway tour is the answer!

Day 4 - San Francisco to Yosemite National Park

Collect your car from the San Francisco Downtown depot and head out of town

Drive from San Francisco to Yosemite – approx 200 miles / 3 hours 30 minutes

2 nights Yosemite – Yosemite View Lodge

Yosemite National Park covers a spectacular section of mountains and valleys in the Sierra Nevada, with soaring peaks, dramatic waterfalls and forests that are home to the giant sequoia, the world’s largest living thing. Yosemite’s scenery is truly breathtaking (for us it’s one of the most spectacular areas in the US), and with mile upon mile of hiking trails it’s a must-see for anyone who loves the outdoors – or just a good, scenic drive.

Day 6 - Yosemite National Park to Mammoth Lakes

Drive from Yosemite to Mammoth Lakes – approx 130 miles / 3 hours 15 mins (plus stopping time) via Yosemite Valley and El Capitan, Tenaya Lake and the June Lake Loop

1 night Mammoth Lakes – Alpenhof Lodge

Mammoth Lakes is a ski resort in the winter and a great base for walking and exploring in the summer, set in spectacular countryside – being close to Yosemite National Park is makes a good place to stay close to the park (for me Yosemite is one of the most beautiful parks in the US), although the route from Mammoth through the park is only open in the summer.

Day 7 - Mammoth Lakes to Death Valley

Drive from Mammoth Lakes to Death Valley – approx 210 miles / 3 hours 45 mins (plus stopping time) via Bishop, Independence and Stovepipe Wells

1 night Death Valley – Furnace Creek Ranch

Located between Yosemite and Las Vegas, Death Valley covers a huge area of unique desert landscapes and spectacular scenery, with a fearsome reputation for extreme temperatures and barren landscape. The area is, however, teaming with wildlife, especially during the spring wildflower bloom, and Death Valley makes an interesting stop on the way from Vegas to the coast.

Day 8 - Death Valley to Las Vegas

Drive from Death Valley to Las Vegas – approx 130 miles / 2 hours 30 minutes (plus stopping time) via Red Rock Canyon

Drop your car off at the airport depot as you arrive in to Las Vegas.

4 nights Las Vegas - Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino

Las Vegas is a full-on, non-stop mix of bright lights, spectacular shows, huge casinos and incredible hotels, where you can ride a rollercoaster on the top of a hotel, win a fortune on the tables, party with the rich and famous or get married by Elvis, all in the same day. Set in the middle of the Nevada desert and with a fabulously dry climate, Vegas also makes a great base for visits to the Grand Canyon.

Day 12 - Return

Make your way back to Las Vegas airport for your return flight the UK, arriving the next day.
