WELCOME

The East Coast of Peninsula Malaysia is much more traditional than other parts of the Country. It's far less populated and more rural, with a more traditional - and typically Malay - way of life. The pace of life is slower than in the increasingly hectic cities of the west, and the visitor to this region is often rewarded with an insight into the Malay culture that most visitors don't experience.

WHAT TO DO

The main areas on the East coast include Kuantan and Cherating. Kuantan is one of the most important towns in the region, with a bustling market and some great beaches close by. It's also a well known area for traditional Malay crafts such as Batik. Further north, Cherating is a relaxing hideaway with good beaches and a peaceful way of life, ideal for a relaxing holiday.

WHERE TO STAY

There's a good range of accommodation along Malaysia's East Coast, although it's more limited than in other parts of the Country, as this region receives fewer visitors. Standards of hotels tend to be good in the main areas.

GETTING THERE

Scheduled flights operate daily to Kuala Lumpur from London Heathrow, with regional departures from around the UK also available with a change of planes en route. From Kuala Lumpur, fly on to Kuantan or Kuala Terengganu from where most areas of the coast can be reached.
