Hanoi's French-influenced elegance is in contrast to the buzz and dynamism of her southern counterpart, and sets the scene for Northern Vietnam. Away from the City, the lofty mountains to the north are a hikers paradise, while the limestone formations of Halong Bay is perhaps the most impressive scenery in the Country.

Hanoi is well worth a few days exploring, considered by many to be one of the most beautiful cities in South East Asia. Spend a night on a traditional Junk on the waters of Halong Bay, or head in to the hills at Sapa for a refreshing change.

Hotel options in Saigon range from simple, character hotels to luxurious international properties, all of which offer excellent value for money. Away from the city, options are a little more limited, although standards are normally high.

GETTING THERE

Saigon is most easily reached from the UK via Bangkok, with direct flights from Heathrow or indirect flights from other UK cities to Bangkok, and onward from there. Hanoi is linked to other areas of Vietnam and the Far East by regular flights.
