Welcome

|
| WELCOME |
One
of the most exciting cities in the world, Rio de Janeiro is
also one of the most spectacular, set on a 60 km beachfront
where 12 million inhabitants are squeezed in between the beach
and the mountains. Rio is an amazing city of contrasts, from
the mountains to the beach, the wealthy suburbs to the poorest
Favelas, and the pulsating nightlife to the wonderful museums. |
| |
| WHAT
TO DO |
Further
out from the City itself, the coastline opens up to reveal some
real treasures. To the west, the Emerald Coast is home to fishing
villages, misty mountains and sandy beaches. The Bay of Angra
Dos Reis and the UNESCO listed town of Paraty are well worth
a side trip from the bustle of Rio. To the east, fashionable
Buzios was made famous in the 60's by Brigitte Bardot, and remains
low-rise and laid back today. |
| WHERE
TO STAY |
The
well known beaches of Copacabana and Ipanema are home to the
widest selection of hotels in Rio, although these are often
a few blocks back from the beach. There's a good selection available,
from value 3* properties where facilities may be limited and
a few words of Portuguese may be useful, to luxurious 5* hotels
with all the trimmings. |
| HOLIDAY
IDEAS |
Spend
a few nights in Rio before moving on to other parts of the Country
- don't spend too long, though, as it's a hectic city! Move
on to Iguacu Falls, Bahia, the Northeast or elsewhere. |
| GETTING
THERE |
Rio
de Janeiro can be reached from the UK with direct flights (generally
with a touchdown in Sao Paulo en route) from Heathrow, or via
European cities such as Lisbon. This latter option allows the
opportunity to arrive in Brazil at Rio and depart at another
destination such as Recife. |
